A-LIFE-RENOVATION-UPDATE

A Life & Renovation Update

Well, hello hello!

When I start to create content back in 2011, we didn’t even have a name for it and had no clue it would turn into a profession in the future. We were just sharing our thoughts, photos, and things we like. Now, it has become a full job for a lot of people. There are ups and downs to every job, and one of the biggest downsides to this job – content creation – is that the Internet never sleeps. It doesn’t sleep when you are sad or have illnesses or going throw a pandemic.

Does anyone remember when we used to post our lunch on Instagram with a mega saturated filter? Internet and social media are supposed to be fun! It should be a creative outlet. It should make us share what we like and connect with people. But, somewhere along the way, I feel like I’ve gotten too serious and a little too calculated and too stressed about what I share. I would love to go back to sharing things more candidly.

To be honest, I’m still trying to find my balance between what I really love to create and want to share instead of just creating content on autopilot because the “marketing gurus” or the algorithm says so.

I’m an architect and I design homes for a living, but sometimes I’m excited about beauty and fashion and travel and activities that fall outside of the “design” category and I worried that people didn’t want to read about anything from me other than decorating. But I think that as I get older, that phrase “you can’t please” everyone really comes to mind. I started this thing ten years ago and I started from a really raw and honest place and I’d like it to get back there. I’m not sure I can ever be as vulnerable again here as I used to be (because when I started only a handful of people were reading) , but I’d like to be able to share more of what I’m really feeling.

So, I’m going to try to not care about how things are received in order to stay true to myself and my passions, which is why I started writing here in the first place ten years ago. I do have plans to come back to this blog, but I thought I’d write up a little update post first before I continued on as normal. And I’m sincerely hoping you’ll find coming along for the ride worth your time.

A Life & Renovation Update

Happenings Lately…

I think in the last few months life just came at me fast for a while there, and although we were starting to get busy with work again, because of the COVID Briton and I have been spending a lot of our time at home and we are taking a break before starting phase 2 of renovation, which has meant I haven’t had much to update you on anyway.

For those who don’t know, we are renovating our 95 year old home in Detroit – did you catch the phase 1 process? I have it saved under my house update highlight on Instagram. I’m planning on doing a blog post soon outlining our plans for the bathroom + some inspiration I’m loving – follow me on Pinterest to see all my house inspiration boards! For those of you who have asked, we were living in the house during the renovation.

Although phase 1 of the house renovation is done, I feel we are still tired of chaos and dust everywhere. So, this is one of the reasons we are having a break before starting phase 2. The other one is that our basement flooded at the end of June (a big reason I’ve been MIA).

On the day it happened we had the volume of rain expected for 2 months in just one night. My basement got about four feet of water and we spent a couple of weeks going through our possessions that had been damaged. Me and numerous residents had carted damaged items to our curbs. We lost our freezer, washer, dryer, water heater, construction tools, and materials for the reno, the list goes on and on… It was so stressful and we ended up spending money that we didn’t plan for this.

The good news is that both B and I are now double vaccinated! What a relief it is to be able to say that. Even now I’m still getting used to being out and about, seeing people and going to restaurants, etc. We’ve still been trying to keep a low profile, only seeing our usual friends and not venturing too far from our neighborhood.

Hopefully, this means I’ll be a bit more present on here now life is getting more interesting again. I’ll definitely share more on the home progress. While I have you, is there anything you’d like to see more of on this blog?

A Life & Renovation Update

This month I’m lovin

ACCENT CHAIRS // spoiler of the new chairs we got for our living room. They weren’t on our plans right now, but we’ve found a very good deal and they will be perfect in our space!

BRAIDED SANDALS // I actually got these last month and have been living in them since, so I wanted to share!

ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH // If you haven’t tried a sonic toothbrush before you will be amazed at how clean your teeth feel.

SUNSCREEN // the facial sunscreen saga is real, and after testing so many brands, after reading inumerous reviews I bought this one and wow! I believe it is my new favorite!

COFFEE TABLE BOOK // I’m a fan of Amber Lewis and her work is all just incredible. I just got her book to add to my books collection. They add color, interest, texture, and I actually do enjoy reading them from time to time. Check out more of my favorite coffee table books here.

As always, thanks for being here!
