How to Update Your Beauty Routine for Fall

5 Ways To Update Your Beauty Routine From Summer To Fall

Cooler weather, yellowing leaves, cozy knits, a pumpkin spice latte — Fall is officially here! The weather is changing and that means our beauty routine has to change along with it. Our skin is always exposed to the environment and it’s much more vulnerable to changes than the rest of our body. Keep reading to know how to update your beauty routine and maintain your best look as you go through fall this year.

Upgrade your fragrance

The easiest way to transition from summer to fall is by upgrading your daily fragrance. The floral and fruity scents we wore last season are slightly pushed farther back on our vanities to make way for bold, woody, musky variations. I like to opt for a warmer, smoky, spicier fragrance for the seasonal shift.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

Once we are entering into a time of year where our skin is creating less oil and dealing with environmental changes is a really great time to pay attention to your exfoliation routine. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week is the best way to minimize the appearance of dark spots, keep pores unclogged, smooth out your skin tone, and remove dead skin that is leftover from sunburns.

Try out some new shades

Try out some new lipstick and blush shades! Put away your coral lipstick and put on rich earthy tones. If you have a warmer skin tone like me opt for warm deeper rose, terracotta tones, and bold red. For cold skin tones embrace the berry shades and burgundy on both lips and cheeks.

Switch up your moisturizer

Since we are transitioning into colder windy days and the dryer time of the year, it’s time to switch up our everyday moisturizer to one that’s more nourishing and hydrating. Give it that extra boost it needs with rich creams that doesn’t feel heavy or obtrusive.

Boost hydration

Fall tends to be cooler and when it’s cooler out, the air holds less moisture. Our skin tends to naturally produce less oil in the fall and winter months, which means our skin dries out super easily. Besides drinking a lot of water, you can give your skin extra hydration using serums before your moisturizer, using an alcohol-free toner to add some moisture back into your skin, and applying lip ointment before wearing lipstick, and before going to bed.
